SMOKE SHOP
History of Indian Road Smoke Shop
The real beginning. Clifton Plain and Chris Lloyd Adams were from Sarnia Indian Reservation, they both were about the age of 17 when they went into World War II. Clifton served his country in Brussels and Chris served in the navy, he was a Golden Gloves Boxer.
Both young men eventually returned home to the Sarnia Indian Reserve. Clifton was a carpenter and Chris was a steeplejack painter.
Donna's Grandfather, Telford Adams was Chief for 34 years. Subsequently her father Chris Adams followed in his father's footsteps when he was elected Chief for a 2-year term of Sarnia Indian Reserve, now Aamjiwnaang.
Sadly, Chris died while in service to his people; he had an enlarged heart. Later, Clifton Plain and Donna became friends. Clifton Plain sold 3 acres of land at Indian Road and Hwy 40 to Donna and Donna moved a "hole in the roof" house to that location. During the next four years, Clifton became a father figure to Donna and taught her carpentry skills as they restored her home at the Indian Road site.
Later, Chris Lloyd Adams, Donna's older brother, provided Donna with tobacco - one of the healing medicines - produced on First Nations Land. The Indian Road Smoke Shop came into existence as a native owned and operated business, that provided employment opportunities.
Indian Road Smoke Shop exists today as Smokeys Gen7. Smokeys is named after Donna's dog Smoke (husky, shepherd and wolf) who was a rescue dog and loved by all.
Donna's Father and Grandfather served as Chief of Aamjiwnaang.
The Smoke Shop started with cigarettes made on First Nations Land.
